Fighting Fracking at the State Capitol
At the last minute Senate Republicans have scheduled my bill, cosponsored with Representative Mike Foote, on school setback from fracking sites for a committee vote today, May 2. Please come and tell the committee how you feel about this at 4 pm, 3rd floor, Room SCR 357 in the State Capitol.
Here are the fracking bills in the committee today.
HB18-1352 School Setbacks
Protecting kids not only applies to the classroom but to playgrounds as well. School setbacks should be at least 1,000 feet from school property lines as opposed to just the school buildings. I was the first elected official to endorse the 2,500 foot setback ballot initiative. I encourage you to promote the initiative by either signing the petition or carrying a petition for others to sign as I am. We want to get this on the ballot this year!
HB18-1419 Prevent Act
The explosion in Firestone makes it all too clear we need to map gas flowlines, make sure wellheads don’t leak and involve cities such as Longmont, Lafayette, and Erie.
HB18-1289 Forced Pooling
Corporate eminent domain, known as forced pooling, gives corporations the right to condemn private property so oil companies can drill. This bill will exempt taxpayer funded local governments and school districts from this practice.
